You will need to be able to raise, on a mortgage, at least 50% of the total cost of the purchase price - remember : you will have to pay legal fees and for the survey plus you will have to demonstrate that you have savings of at least £2,500 - £3,500 depending on where you live.
Look at potential properties carefully - if you see anything that might cause a valuer to decline for mortgage purposes (e.g., cracks, damp patches etc) don't proceed any further !
